Artemis Fowl
Eoin Colfer
13 credits
Viking, 01 Jan 01, Paperback, Airport Ed
Review: I liked this book for its originality. Artemis is perhaps sometimes too "bad" to be true, so you cannot really identify with him, but the whole story is well built and gets your interest until the end. The fairies are, in my opinion, the best charachters in the whole book. You cannot avoid liking Holly and her chief, they are so stubborn and dedicated to their little world but still they are full of humour even facing tragedy. Last but not least it is not a copy of Harry Potter, but is very original.

Review: While the book starts off in shades of James Bond, Mission Impossible, GI Jane and many other fil...

Belgarath the Sorcerer
David Eddings, Leigh Eddings

Del Rey, 01 Jun 96, Mass Market Paperback, 1st Mass Market Ed
Review: To tell you the truth I hadn't intended to read this book. I picked it up having bought it many years before when I was deriving immense enjoyment from the Belgariad and Malloreon series and with only the intention of scanning through the first few lines to remind me of what this author and his imagined land were all about, I opened `Belgarath the Sorcerer' and turned to page one. But before I knew it I had been drawn in, but not by the fascinating origins of Belgarath the Sorcerer, at least not immediately, but instead quite cleverly by events that followed on from the ending to the Malloreon series with Garion, Durnik and Belgarath enjoying each o...

Charmed Life
Diana Wynne Jones
14 credits
Collins, 01 Jan 07, Paperback, First Thus
Review: hey y'all- CHarmed life is a reeeaaallly good book. I like it alot cause it kinda welcomes me into the world of magic myself. Because Ive read the harry potter series, i find alot of books hard to compare to, but NOT this one! It was great. I really liked how Diana Wynne Jones started her own new world, where everyone is classified as someone, I loved all the characters and I'll definately be reading this book again !!

Eclipse
Stephenie Meyer
23 credits
Little, Brown Book Group, 31 Aug 07, Paperback, Export Ed
Review: This review is 1 star for Amazon's service rather than rating the book which I haven't been able to read. I, too, have been sent a Spanish edition of Eclipse. It was not clear when I placed my order and viewed the book online on 16 May that this was a Spanish version. In fact, my e-mail confirmation and dispatch note make no mention of it being a Spanish version, so I was very surprised when I opened my package when it arrived.

It appears that there was an error on the Amazon system going back about a month, as they weren't showing that this book was a Spanish edition and a number of people have ordered it expecting an English editio...

ERAGON: Inheritance Book One
Christopher Paolini
2 copies available
from 15 credits
Corgi Books, 01 Jan 05, Paperback, New Ed
Review: I first read this book when it was new and being heavily promoted - but I gave up after a few chapters, because it was slow, tired, cliched and clunky.

I bought it again as an ebook when a special offer became available, and gave it another go. I should not have bothered. The story was no better! I ended up rushing through to get the thing finished.

The writer of this book was young, and his achievemnt should not be underestimated, and indeed has now been well rewarded. But as a work of fiction, this is just not one I could recommend. I expect readers who have read very little fantasy fiction (especially young readers) wil...

Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban
J. K. Rowling

Review:
The fourth book in the Harry Potter series. This time around there is a mass murderer on the loose and the atmosphere in Hogwarts is tense..

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Book 4)
J.K. Rowling
31 credits
Scholastic Press, 08 Jul 00, Hardcover, First American Edition
Synopsis: Fourteen-year-old Harry Potter joins the Weasleys at the Quidditch World Cup, then enters his fourth year at Hogwarts Academy where he is mysteriously entered in an unusual contest that challenges his wizarding skills, friendships and character, amid signs that an old enemy is growing stronger.

Review: Having read the book, I got it on tape to listen to on my commute to work. The book is excellent, and Stephen Fry adds so much in his reading. I say reads, but in truth he acts each part, and brings the book alive. What a great partnership. Sadly, its spoilt other books on tape for me, which seem bla...

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
J K Rowling
17 credits
Bloomsbury, 01 Jan 04, Paperback, New Ed
Synopsis: As his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry approaches, 15-year-old Harry Potter is in full-blown adolescence, complete with regular outbursts of rage, a nearly debilitating crush, and the blooming of a powerful sense of rebellion. It's been yet another infuriating and boring summer with the despicable Dursleys, this time with minimal contact from our hero's non-Muggle friends from school. Harry is feeling especially edgy at the lack of news from the magic world, wondering when the freshly revived evil Lord Voldemort will strike. Returning to Hogwarts will be a relief... or will it? The fifth book in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter...

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Book 3)
J.K. Rowling
16 credits
Scholastic Paperbacks, 01 Oct 01, Paperback, 1st PAPERBACK
Synopsis: During his third year at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry Potter must confront the devious and dangerous wizard responsible for his parents' deaths.

Review: Harry is relieved to be back at Hogwarts for his third year with his friends Ron and Hermione even though he isn't completely safe. The escaped convict Sirius Black, a staunch supporter of Voldemort, is after Harry. Sequel to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. A very entertaining read.

Review: For my money, though I like the first two Potter books, this is where Rowling struck go...
