Review: This book was boderline awful. After two days of reading it and I still had not finished I had to quit. I was totally bored!! Angeleen does ridiculous things in the name of love and everyone accepts it. Things like this would never have happened during this time. Raurk comes across like such an a55 that I kept hoping she would leave him. The one tme where she looked to show a little back bone, at the slightest push, she is right back in square one. This is the first time I have read a romance novel where I wanted the heroine to leave the hero. I actually didn't want the romance because Raurk was horrible. Did I mention that Ana Leigh is an unimagiitive writier. I have read two of her books and I was not impressed.

Review: Eight months after the end of the Civil War, Angel Hunter and her father Henry Scott lose their Louisiana home 'Scotcroft' from not having the funds to keep it. So they board a riverboat heading up the Mississippi River to Saint Louis with their prized stallion Bold King.

On the riverboat is where Ruark Stewart meets her. He notices she has a stallion with fine lines and he sets out to own the stallion to breed Bold King to get the best race horses for his racing stables.

Angel refuses to sell him and stands fast to her word only to turn around and find out that her father's gambling habits have lost her favorite horse in a card game to Ruark.

Angel wants to hate Ruark but instead becomes his mistress only to dispise him more when Ruark thinks she's a [prostitute]. So when she comes up pregnant on a trip to England with Ruark, remembering his words to her, she leaves him, only to be reunited with him back in St. Louis two years later when their son is near 2 years old, and he coerces Angel to marry him.

I started out hating Ruark for how he thought immediately that she was a card-cheating, theiving [prostitute] and I had to force myself to read through that part... but by the middle to the end you are rooting for Ruark! It is a page turner! Give this book the benefit of the doubt and you'll come out liking it!

Review: Ruark Stewart waited impatiently as the lavish paddle wheeler made yet another stop along the banks of the great Mississippi. But when he caught sight of the spirited black stallion and the raven-tressed beauty that came up the gangplank, his boredom quickened to excitement.

Review: I have read and re-read this book for some time now. Ana Leigh out did herself with this historical romance, the follow up The golden spike was not as well written and drags on, not like the heart-pouding Angel Hunter, the story line is believeable, the players in the story are real and they speak to you as this could have actually have happened and the romance is first class. Ms. Hunter during the ending of the cival war must sell her plantation and managed to keep from both sides a stallion which her father looses the last of thier funds to buy. With the last of thier money and the stallion bold king they book passage on a steamboat on the way to st. louie, after saying goodbye to her mother sucummed to fever, and a brother who was lost in the war,she boards the steamboat with hopes of a new life and to sire bold king out. This is when she meets and quickly becomes the apple of Ruark Stewarts eye. As they exhange dialouge, and chance meetings on the steamer. They develope a strange friendship, ultimately becoming lovers( she accepts to his condition of being his mistress) totally unnacceptable of a southern woman at this time. I wont give the plot away but it has action, history, romance and keeps you guessing with the plot. I highly would suggest this reading.
